  • Specific Responsibilities

    Industrial designer is responsible for the development and implementation of world-class distinctive solutions for a wide range of product categories including office seating and furniture.  This passionate, driven professional must possess the ability to bring to life fresh, innovative and clever solutions and drive those solutions through development and into the marketplace.  This includes defining aspects of form, geometry, aesthetics, mechanical parameters, fit, function, end user interface, and meeting defined criteria for product features, cost, manufacturability, and project schedules.  This individual must be able to articulate high level design and product strategy initiatives through visual and verbal communications, display an inventive spirit and an excellent eye for detail. Additionally, individuals should also possess a sound design methodology, outstanding problem solving skills and the ability to take direction.  Above all, Industrial designer   must be a team player who is exceedingly capable of sketching, rendering, 3-D modeling and communicating your designs to coworkers and customers alike.

     

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

    (Other duties may be assigned)

     

    1. Conceptualize, design and manage the development of new products while focusing on usability and innovation.

    2. Communicate concepts, developmental work, and finalized design solutions by methods meeting the specific needs of each project. Communication format can include, but are not limited to artistic renderings, CAD models, physical models, and written reports.

     

    1. Maintain a working knowledge of material and process technologies applicable to new product development. Research materials, processes or market requirements. Prepare trend presentations outlining future design direction and help set direction for product categories, colors and materials.

     

    1. Analyze consumer needs and identify new product opportunities.

     

    1. Communicate effectively with internal and external resources to ensure new product development success.

     

    1. Making presentations to senior design management or clients to present design proposals.

     

    1. Brainstorming as part of a team and taking part in specialist or multidisciplinary team meetings.

    2. Interact daily with Sales, Marketing and Merchandizing to ensure the timely introduction of competitive, cost effective and consumer preferred new products.

    3. Making samples or working models by hand or using computerized prototyping equipment.

    Education/Experience:

    Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

     

    Language Ability:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    Math Ability:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

     

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Design software and Manufacturing software.
